My Quarantine Diary — Day 9
5 more days! well, actually it’s 5.5 days awaiting.
I guess it will go fast as I am welcoming another work week ahead.
While CNA is on, I decided to watch more CNA news and documentaries for the next week.
Today is quite a artistic day I would say.
I finally watched the 3-hour famous musical <Hamilton>, the original 2016 Broadway cast. This is THE American musical that people have been talking about for the past few years, and THE show that could cost you a thousand bucks for a ticket.
This musical in a way is also very American. Different from the classic west-end musicals in London, it is full of raps, hip-hops, and R&B. Another highlight that audience like me would notice in the first place is its casting rows, full of non-white actors and actress.
Unlike those fans in Douban, I am not that thrilled watching through the show as I may not be so familiar with US histories. Yet there are a few lines that made me touched. e.g.
- “Immigrants: We get the job done”
- “Dying is easy, young man. Living is harder”
- “Hey yo, I’m just like my country, I’m young, scrappy, and hungry”
- “Let me tell you what I wish I’d known
When I was young and dreamed of glory:
You have no control: Who lives, who dies, who tells your story”
– Washington and Company (History Has Its Eyes On You)
Indeed, i like the last piece of song the most — History has its eyes on you. Who lives, who dies, who tells your story. The musical alone is a piece of historical story about the America then told by America now.
Like many others, I wonder if one day we can come up with another creative way to tell the story about Chinese, about our ancestors, about our history.
